Rainforest Odyssey – Help for Primates
The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) have recently launched their annual red list of threatened species in advance of their four yearly conservation congress being held in Barcelona this week.
Unless drastic action is taken, many mammals could face extinction in as little as ten years. Asian primates are particularly at risk. One of the most iconic species in danger is of course the Orang-utan. Protection of this and other species can be helped by tourism investing money into the reserves for reforestation and helping to create corridor links between existing pockets of forest. This investment occurs through the enjoyment of taking a holiday in such an area.
